papparazzi party
on monday i had the privilege of getting together with some fellow photographers for a fun shoot! we are all friends, high-schoolers (well, besides robbie) & love photography! instead of getting friends to model for us, we thought it would be fun to just use each other as models! since i’m not too great at planning things & i really cannot make a decision to save my life, it took us forEVER to finally get this whole thing to come together. but, alas..it did! so worth the wait! i think we all had a wonderful time :)

i’m certain lauren was saying something super important here :)

the boysssss:
stay tuned for when i post the actual pictures from the shoot & all the proper introductions shall be made! I’M a lucky duck & have a day off…so, happy weekend to me & happpy happpppy almost weekend to YOU! :)
her eyes | photography
Today, we are talking about one of my absolute favorite things ever…eyes. I am a huuuuge fan of eyes. Because of that, we want to make them as absolutely stunning as possible, yes? These are some tips of what I know is the best way to do that :)
In these two pictures, I want you to take a good, close look at Miss Lauren’s eyes. (um can we please take a moment to acknowledge how adorable & gorgeous Lauren is?! Good golly me.) In the picture on the left, the eyes seem a little flat. In the picture on the right, they pop right outta’ her face. In a good way ;) THIS is alllll because of placement.
In the picture on the right, we were facing the road, & Lauren was looking up at the camera, and right into the big open sky. The reason her eyes have that pop, is because they are reflecting the sky! (if you look suuuuper up close, you can see the outline of me taking the picture. I decided not to post a zoomed in version, because I know that wouldn’t make laur the haaappiest person alive ;)) Eyes are like little mirrors—if they face a HUGE white wall, you will see a BIG, bright reflection. If you put them adjacent to a dark tree, they are going to have a darker reflection. If you use a flash, the white circles of the light will reflect in the eyes! Aaand so on & so forth….
For the picture on the left, we were on the side of the (same) road, facing away from the big open sky. Lauren was standing right in the shade of a huge tree, so basically all that her eyes are reflecting in this picture is a shadow. So instead of twinkling like in the other picture, they are a tad darker. Moral of the story: even turning your subject a teensy tiny bit can have huge effects on the picture. big open sky/surface/light=big, bright eyes!
In the spirit of b&w, pretty eyed pictures, here are some more from a shoot i will be posting verrrry shortly!
Whether they are facing an open sky or a big tree, nobody can argue with the fact that they look darling regardless! hopefully you find this helpful the next time you are out taking pictures of your kids, dog, client, or anything that has eyes! ;)
kelsea | pretty portraits.
Can we please talk about how pretty this girl is? Kelsea is working on her modeling portfolio, & I think anybody would be downright crazy to not snatch her up. We met at my new favorite location [yes, i'm obsessed] & kelsea worked it out–despite the unusual mass of people watching! ;) Take a seat & prepare yourself for the gorgeousness of this California girl :)
tuesday thoughts | running, weekends & blogs.
today is tuesday & i want to share with you what is on my mind!!
item one: running in the rain = glorious. additionally, i need to run more. i seriously would not be surprised if my legs fell off right now.
item two: i had a fantastic weekend! I ate pizza, baked cookies & watched movies at an NCL movie night, had a super fun skype sesh with Lauren & this lovely person. I had sleepovers, slept late, had a bridal consult with two cute brides. I squealed with joy during this shoot. I enjoyed how much my church branched out with food this week, went to a 4-hour lunch with one of my favorites, and started a new week worshiping Jesus at paradigm.
item three: I should really be working on an english project right now, but i just.can’t.find.the.motivation.
item four: i am so fantastically EXCITED for wedding season I can hardly sleep at night!! just thinking about it makes my heart beat all fast & i get super jumpy!
item five: i am currently working [very slowly, it seems!] on a new blog + new branding. i would be very pleased to have your input!!!! so spill peeeeeople…what do you like? what do you HATE? what do you want to see more of? eh, eh, eh?!
natalee | pretty portraits.
Say hello to natalee. This girl is seriously gorgeous & I can’t think of any better shoot to ring in the new year! This location = new favorite. This girl = a favorite of mine for years ;) if the rest of this year is anything like this shoot, then this year = golden. Miss Amy was our awesome “stylist” / fellow model & Lauren rocked it out shooting alongside me! I have wanted to have a shoot with this pretty person for quite a while now, & we spent the day taking pretty pictures, dinner dates at taco bell, watching movies, eating ben & jerries & squealing over wedding magazines. Magical.

natalee wakes up & her hair looks like this. seriously? some people have all the luck.

miss amy came along & we of course had to steal some pictures of this gorgeous girl :)

viareggio.
When I was in fifth grade, my teacher gave us a writing assignment. We were instructed to write letters to family members that we hadn’t talked to in a while. I being the over-achieving child that I was, decided to write a letter to my Italian cousin Federica (who I had never met) IN a different language & send it to her. My parents had just returned from a trip to Italy where they had met up with our cousins (aka federica’s family) so I think I was feeling inspired. I’m sure the letter was super choppy and awkward, because the extent of my Italian language knowledge was whatever google translater told me. I sent the letter off to the far away town of Viareggio, on the coast of Italy. A few weeks later, I was ecstatic when I got a reply. [this is also where I would like to say what a SHAME it is that people don’t write letters anymore. I LOVE letters.] Federica wrote back in both Italian & English…and from there our years of letters began.
Last month, I travelled with my family to italy for the first time. From the very beginning, I KNEW I wanted to visit Fede & her family in Viareggio. We were finally able to make all the details line up & I was finally able to meet my cousins face to face! It was super surreal & exciting…even though I hardly speak Italian & she doesn’t get much practice with English, I felt as if I had known her my entire life. The days we spent with their family was some of my favorite memories from the trip!
we walked along the pier in the cold & rain [which would explain my rain face] here is both fede & her sister Giulia
